About the role

The Network Engineer is responsible for implementing and optimising NHVR’s network solutions, performing advanced troubleshooting to resolve escalated issues, and driving short-term improvement initiatives to enhance network reliability, scalability, and security compliance. The role collaborates across internal teams to deploy network upgrades, manage configurations, and ensure the integrity of NHVR’s network resources across sites and hybrid environments.

This position will also require interstate travel and after-hours availability to support critical network systems and provide technical expertise during incident recovery or project deployments.

Key responsibilities of this role are:

  • Implement and optimise NHVR’s network solutions, including upgrades, security configurations, and policy rollouts for scalability and security adherence.
  • Manage advanced network troubleshooting and resolve escalated issues promptly to ensure minimal disruption to operations and business continuity.
  • Monitor and analyse network performance, conducting regular assessments to identify bottlenecks, mitigate risks, and improve operational efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with NHVR’s network security standards through the deployment of firewalls, VPNs, network access control (NAC), secure device configurations, and access policies aligned with organisational controls.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate network documentation, including topology diagrams, inventory records, and system logs to support operational visibility and knowledge-sharing across teams.
  • Assess telemetry and observability tools for network monitoring, ensuring real-time performance insights to address emerging risks or vulnerabilities.

About You

To be successful in this role you will possess a minimum of four years’ experience in network engineering roles, with demonstrated skills in implementing and managing enterprise network solutions.

The D&T team is currently in a period of significant transition and capability uplift. You will be comfortable operating in an environment where not everything is defined, processes are still maturing, and priorities can shift. You bring the ability to create clarity for your team without waiting for perfect conditions, and you understand that building something better while keeping the lights on requires both patience and pragmatism.

Please be aware this role may require flexibility to support after-hours critical incidents as required and travel to NHVR locations across Australia.

Your toolkit for success:

  • Advanced expertise in implementing, configuring, and maintaining network infrastructure, including switches, routers, NAC solutions, and wireless access points.
  • Hands on experience with SASE platforms, Zero Trust Architecture and Fortinet
  • Strong understanding of Aruba network technologies, including Aruba AOS switches and wireless systems, with an ability to optimise configurations for performance and reliability.
  • In-depth knowledge of network security protocols (e.g., firewalls, VPNs, NAC, RBAC) to ensure secure and compliant network systems.

Highly regarded:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Industry certifications such as Aruba Certified Switching Professional (ACSP), Aruba Certified Design Professional (ACDP), or equivalent certifications in network technologies.
  • Familiarity with hybrid cloud environments and seamless integration of network infrastructure within Azure/AWS platforms.
