About the role
As Network Team Lead you will oversee the delivery of secure, reliable, and high-performing network services across NHVR. In this critical leadership role, you will manage the day-to-day operations of the networking environment, including VPNs, firewalls, WAN/MPLS, and load balancing, ensuring the organisation maintains robust connectivity and strong security standards.
As a key contributor to NHVR’s broader technology landscape, you will align networking capabilities with strategic priorities while driving effective incident resolution and service optimisation. Working closely with cross-functional teams you will play a vital role in ensuring seamless integration and consistent service delivery.
Key responsibilities of this role are:
- Oversee the operations of the Networking team, ensuring SLAs, incident resolution processes, and governance standards are adhered to.
- Plan and prioritise networking initiatives and projects, ensuring proper delegation and balance of workloads across the team.
- Mentor and develop team members, fostering growth in advanced networking concepts, certifications, and practical expertise.
- Act as the key escalation point for complex networking issues, providing technical leadership to resolve critical incidents.
- Collaborate with the Infrastructure and Networking Manager to align Networking team objectives with organisational IT strategy and business goals.
- Monitor team and project performance to identify trends, recurring issues, and opportunities for improvement.
- Develop and enforce governance practices for secure and efficient networking operations, ensuring compliance with NHVR’s policies (e.g., role-based access controls, security protocols, and data residency).
- Drive the creation and maintenance of documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), workflows, and technical standards.
- Oversee the operation and management of NHVR’s core networking services, including VPNs, firewalls, load balancers, routing, NAT, and WAN/MPLS.

About You
To be successful in this role you will have demonstrated experience in leading technical networking teams and in a complex environment with a strong track record in developing, implementing, and maintaining network standards and security protocols.
The D&T team is currently in a period of significant transition and capability uplift. You will be comfortable leading in an environment where not everything is defined, processes are still maturing, and priorities can shift. You bring the ability to create clarity and direction for your team without waiting for perfect conditions, and you understand that building something better while keeping the lights on requires both patience and pragmatism.
Your toolkit for success:
- Proven experience leading, mentoring, and developing technical teams, fostering collaboration and high performance.
- Expertise in enterprise networking technologies and infrastructure, including hardware such as Cisco routers, Fortinet FortiGate firewalls, and Aruba switches/WAPs.
- Proficient in designing and implementing secure and compliant network solutions, optimising performance, scalability, and system reliability.
- In-depth knowledge of VPNs, firewalls, load balancers, routing, and WAN/MPLS for enterprise network management.
- Hands-on experience with network design, troubleshooting, upgrades, and monitoring solutions.
- Skilled in establishing governance frameworks, enforcing network standards, and ensuring compliance with regulations.
- Proactive in understanding end-user needs and delivering high levels of customer satisfaction.
Ideally you will have:
- Relevant technical certifications, such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or equivalent, Fortinet NSE (Network Security Expert) and Aruba Certified Switching Professional (ACSP) or Wireless Specialist certifications.
- Familiarity with managed networking frameworks (e.g., Telstra MPLS/wide-area solutions).
- Experience integrating modern networking technologies (e.g., SD-WAN or network automation tools).
