About the role

Based in Brisbane the Principal Engineer – PBS Designs leads a team of mechanical engineers to administer the heavy vehicle design application process under the Performance Based Standards scheme. The role involves the application of mature engineering skills and experience, a robust understanding of both the performance based and prescriptive vehicle safety standards and managing complex relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

This is a permanent full-time role, based in our Newstead office.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

Some of the key responsibilities of this role are:

  • Provide effective and supportive leadership to a team of mechanical engineers
  • Lead the resolution of complex heavy vehicle engineering issues
  • Maintain a strong customer focus and commitment to meeting our customer service standards.
  • Provide specialist professional technical advice on the application of heavy vehicle safety standards, modifications, manufacturers’ specifications, performance-based standards (PBS) and design rules in accordance with both national and international standards.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, evaluation and continued improvement of policies and policy frameworks for PBS standards.
  • Build and maintain professional networks and effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide, in consultation with the Chief Engineer, national technical leadership in relation to heavy vehicle regulation, standards and the PBS scheme.

About You

 

As the ideal candidate, you will be a qualified and experienced mechanical engineer with an impressive knowledge of heavy vehicle design, dynamics and the Performance Based Standards scheme. You pride yourself on the quality of your work, your communication skills and the ability to work with others. You will have experience in applying standards and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation as well as a keen sense for driving innovation. You have a passion for mentoring and developing your team and helping to build the engineering capabilities across the organisation.

 

You will have:

  • A mechanical engineering degree
  • Queensland (RPEQ) or equivalent qualifications which will allow for certification as RPEQ (Mechanical) within three months of commencement.
  • 2+ years’ experience as a Principal Engineer or equivalent in the heavy vehicle design industry.
