About the role

Working as the Team Lead – Access and GIS Solutions your role will be to lead the delivery and optimisation of digital access and GIS solutions that support NHVR’s spatial systems and heavy vehicle access management.

You will perform a critical role in ensuring high‑quality mapping and access tools are in place to improve route planning, safety and operational efficiency, while guiding teams to enhance accessibility and service outcomes.

Key responsibilities of this role are:

  • Leading a team of GIS specialists, developers, and project resources to deliver innovative spatial solutions as well as uplifting team capability through mentoring, training, and fostering collaboration.
  • Oversee the development, maintenance, and performance of GIS tools and mapping systems for heavy vehicle routes, ensuring operational reliability and accuracy.
  • Ensure spatial data and mapping systems meet NHVR’s standards for route safety, accessibility, and compliance.
  • Manage the development and operation of access management solutions to optimise route planning and regulatory compliance.
  • Support initiatives to integrate access systems with GIS platforms to deliver seamless functionality and consistent user experiences.
  • Direct the delivery of new features and upgrades to GIS and access solutions, maintaining alignment with NHVR strategic objectives.
  • Oversee testing frameworks to ensure system updates meet quality, security, and business continuity standards.
  • Ensure compliance with portfolio delivery governance for all access and GIS solutions related initiatives.

About You

To be successful in this role you will be ideally tertiary qualified in GIS, Spatial, Information Technology, Business Administration, Information Systems, or a related field and will have a minimum of 5 years of demonstrated expertise in leading and delivering customer facing applications, access and GIS solutions.

Your toolkit for success:

  • Proven experience engaging with senior stakeholders to define business needs and align system capabilities with operational goals.
  • Proven experience driving process enhancements and system optimisation projects.
  • Experience managing change implementation and minimising disruptions during transitions or upgrades.
  • Familiarity with governance frameworks, risk management practices, and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Experience in supporting business continuity and capacity management strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams, resolve conflicts, and deliver projects within time and resource constraints.

Ideally you will also have:

  • Knowledge of NHVR’s operational ecosystem or similar heavy vehicle, government regulated entities.
  • Certification in GIS technologies such as ArcGIS or QGIS.
  • Strong understanding of technology trends and challenges related to customer engagement and spatial data management.
