Are you passionate about road safety and ensuring compliance within the heavy vehicle industry? The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) is seeking a dedicated Vehicle Monitoring Officer to join our team. This role offers the opportunity to make a real impact by investigating vehicle monitoring incidents, enforcing compliance with the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL), and contributing to safer roads for all Australians.
Based at our Paramatta office as preferred but open to suitable candidates from Brisbane. As a Vehicle Monitoring Officer, you will be responsible for reviewing incidents detected through heavy vehicle monitoring systems, preparing evidentiary briefs to assist in prosecutions, and providing evidence in court when required. You will liaise with operators, drivers, and other compliance agencies regarding potential offences, undertake investigations into suspected breaches, and exercise the powers of an Authorised Officer under the HVNL. This includes issuing infringement notices, formal warnings, and applying other compliance sanctions. You will also maintain the integrity and accuracy of databases and records, adhere to NHVR policies and procedures, and contribute to a safe and healthy work environment in line with WH&S requirements.
Key responsibilities of this role are:
- Review incidents detected through heavy vehicle monitoring systems and prepare evidentiary briefs to assist in the prosecution of contraventions of the Heavy Vehicle National Law and where necessary provide evidence in court. Liaise with operators, drivers and other compliance agencies regarding possible offences detected through heavy vehicle monitoring systems.
- Undertake investigations and take enforcement action into suspected offences detected through heavy vehicle monitoring systems.
- Use sound judgement in exercising the powers of an Authorised Officer under the HVNL (Heavy Vehicle National Law), including issuing directions to operators and drivers to produce records, issuing infringement notices, formal warnings and applying other compliance sanctions.
- Maintain the integrity and accuracy of databases and records and retrieving and archiving information where required.
Applicants must hold a current motor vehicle driver licence. Flexibility to work outside normal hours and travel when required is expected. Experience in a similar role, with knowledge and understanding of the HVNL and a working knowledge of the heavy vehicle industry, will be highly regarded.

About You
To be successful in this role you will possess:
- Demonstrated experience in interpreting and applying legislation, particularly as it relates to authorised officer powers and heavy vehicles.
- You will have proven ability to conduct investigations in a regulatory environment, prepare briefs of evidence, and apply sanctions aimed at improving industry compliance.
- You will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritise work under strict deadlines are essential.
- You will also demonstrate initiative, tact, confidentiality, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, along with the confidence to represent the NHVR in legal proceedings.
