As Policy Advisor, you will play a key role in advancing heavy vehicle access and productivity reforms through the strategic development, implementation, and ongoing refinement of policies and regulations. Your work will focus on achieving national harmonisation of heavy vehicle access across all states and territories by:

  • Evaluating existing regulatory frameworks and identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Designing and delivering new or updated regulatory requirements
  • Developing innovative, best-practice solutions to address inconsistencies and enhance productivity
  • Engaging collaboratively with stakeholders, including state and territory jurisdictions, peak industry bodies, and road managers

Reporting Line Reporting to the Principal Policy Advisor – Access, you will contribute directly to shaping a more consistent and efficient national approach to heavy vehicle access. Your efforts will support the broader goal of streamlining regulatory practices and fostering stronger stakeholder alignment across Australia.

Key responsibilities of this role are:

Support Policy Delivery: Assist the Principal Policy Advisor – Network Access Policy in delivering complex national heavy vehicle access projects and policy initiatives within defined timeframes.

Policy Development & Analysis: Conduct research, analyse data and trends, and prepare high-quality, evidence-based policy proposals, briefings, and correspondence that recommend positions and identify reform opportunities.

Strategic Implementation: Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic, technical, and operational policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulations relevant to the Network Access Policy team, using appropriate software tools such as the NHVR Portal and project management applications.

Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration: Build professional networks and collaborate effectively with NHVR colleagues, government agencies at all levels, industry representatives, and other stakeholders, while delivering exceptional customer service.

Professional Conduct & Compliance: Demonstrate accountability, professionalism, and a commitment to personal development; adhere to NHVR policies and WH&S procedures to ensure a compliant, safe, and ethical work environment.
